Mayor of London
At the heart of the Mayor’s priorities is to create 200,000 jobs over his administrative term and the transition to a low carbon, resource efficient economy represents a huge opportunity for London to contribute to this through investment in infrastructure, skills and jobs. London already has a very strong business base of over 9,000 companies operating across the low carbon and environmental goods and services sector and its supply chain. These businesses are employing over 160,000 people and in 2011/12 their cumulative sales were £25.4 billion, in a global market of over £3.2 trillion. London has some real strengths within this sector, including wind, geothermal, photovoltaics, building technologies and waste management, and these sub-sectoral strengths represent real opportunities for London when looking to develop cleantech clusters.
